You cannot import flavour by spreadsheet. Before you commit a container of snacks, run a taste panel — a structured one. 👃 Here is a protocol that takes half a day and saves months of regret.
The Half-Day Protocol
Set a blind test with a known benchmark, use 5-8 tasters (procurement, marketing, operations), score on appearance, aroma, flavour, texture and aftertaste, and always test as the consumer would — not straight from the pack.
| Criterion | Score | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | 0-5 | Colour, shape consistency |
| Aroma | 0-5 | True to label |
| Flavour | 0-5 | Balance, intensity |
| Texture | 0-5 | Crunch, mouthfeel |
| Aftertaste | 0-5 | Clean or off |
Rules That Matter
- 🚫 No product names during scoring — blind or bust
- 🍬 Include the retail price context, not just taste
- 📄 Score, then discuss; the discussion follows the numbers
Two suppliers look equal on paper. The panel separates them in ninety minutes. ⏱️
