Dried mushrooms are having a snack moment. From whole dried shiitake crisps to umami mushroom powders used by healthy-snack brands, China’s mushroom supply chain is feeding a global appetite for savoury, clean-label crunch. 🍄
The mushroom snack lineup
- 🍄 Fried/roasted mushroom crisps — the closest thing to potato chips with umami depth.
- 🥣 Dried whole mushrooms — pantry staple for soups, stews and ramen.
- 🌿 Mushroom powder & seasoning — MSG-alternative for clean-label brands.
- 🛒 Bulk dried grades — for foodservice and further processing.
| Grade check | Spec to request |
|---|---|
| Moisture (dried) | ≤ 12% |
| Grade | Whole, sliced, caps-only, or broken |
| Size sorting | Calibre range per export grade |
| Contaminants | No stones, insects, foreign matter |
| Pesticide residue | Compliance with EU/US limits |
Where the demand is coming from
Plant-based eating put mushrooms centre-stage. Snack brands love them for the umami profile without additives, the protein-to-calorie story, and the “real ingredient” label appeal. As a crisps format they’re still niche — which is exactly why early importers are snapping up shelf space. 📈
Buying advice
- 🔬 Demand pesticide residue reports per shipment — it’s a hard gate in the EU.
- 🍄 Specify variety (shiitake, oyster, king oyster) and growing region.
- 📦 Confirm food-grade packaging and moisture barrier for ocean freight.
- 🧪 Run a moisture recheck at arrival — the silent spoiler in dried goods.
Our supplier base spans Fujian, Hubei and Sichuan mushroom regions, handling everything from raw dried caps to finished snack bags. Tell us your format — we’ll match the grower to the market. 🍄
