# Private-Label Snack Programs from China: From Brief to Launch

Private label is the fastest way for a retailer or brand to enter snacks without building a factory. China offers deep manufacturing capability across fried, baked, puffed and coated snacks, and the discipline that makes a program succeed is process, not luck.

Brief and target costing
------------------------

Define the product, the price point and the channel before sampling. A brief that names a target shelf price lets the factory engineer the recipe and pack backwards to hit it, rather than presenting a product you then have to price into the market.

Sampling and sensory
--------------------

Expect several rounds. Taste in the intended format, and to the intended audience. Snacks are hedonic products; a panel of colleagues is not a consumer test. Where possible, run a small consumer panel before committing to artwork.

- Round one: direction and format.
- Round two: recipe balance and seasoning.
- Round three: pack, fill and shelf-life confirmation.

**Buyer tip:** freeze the approved sample and the spec together. That is your reference when the second production run arrives.

Packaging and compliance
------------------------

Artwork, barriers and fill formats are part of the product. Confirm labelling rules for every target market early, and check that the chosen film supports the shelf life you have promised. Retain compliance documents per SKU.

Timeline and launch
-------------------

Allow for development, artwork approval, packaging lead time and first production. A realistic schedule prevents rushed decisions that show up as quality problems. Launch with a focused range, then expand once sell-through is proven.
